I have been fishing since I was 4 years thanks to my late father who passed on his skills and knowledge.

Catching wee trout with a maggot or worm in little streams and rivers throughout our beautiful country, I was hooked instantly.

I wonder how many of us have our dads to thank for helping us to choose this as our hobby.

Fly fishing arrived a bit later. It was in the early 80s that I first picked up a fly rod in South Africa where I spent a very happy childhood.

It has since taken me all over Scotland, Ireland and Northern Europe with so many more places yet to explore.

From the mid 80s my love of traditional loch style fishing really developed, thanks to my dad and uncles. The old wet flies and bumbles of yesteryear are very close to my heart and still one of my preferred methods of fishing...tripping the bob fly through a big wave on a loch and watching as the fish erupt out the water!

During the 90s I took my first steps into fly tying, and I havent looked back since. Catching a fish on a fly that I had tied myself was always the drive and then the step further, on unique patterns I had created.

Naming my creations, attempting to tie realistic looking flies not just for fishing but as art is all part of this amazing hobby which is pretty much just attaching fluff and feathers or whatever you fancy on to a hook to try and fool a fish.

Fly fishing and tying - they are an addiction. My shop is based in Caithness at the very north of mainland ScotlandIt is easy to be inspired here in my homeland, fishing remote hill lochs that involve long hikes through stunning scenery and casting to fish that probably have not seen an artificial fly.

Sitting behind the vice, a wee dram of my favourite single malt whisky in hand and some good Scottish folk music in the background... that is my happy place where magic can sometimes happen.

The landscape, colours, wildlife are all incorporated into my own unique creations.
